Recording activity on your screen can be done for various reasons, one of them being simple entertainment. However, it can also help in testing, getting a visual representation of a bug or issue. Regardless of the purpose, you need some kind of application, and Screen Capturer is one of them.

A neat advantage, especially for this type of application, is that you don’t have to go through a setup process to make everything work, and are thus able to carry it around with you on a USB flash drive to record activity on other computers as well. What’s more, registries are not modified, and this means the target PC’s health status remains intact.

All features are stored in a pretty compact window, that’s not fitted with any descriptions or helpful tooltips, but it’s intuitive enough, letting beginners and experienced individuals accommodate in a jiffy. Before you get to actually record anything, you need to go through all configuration options, which is a good thing, since it forces you to get familiar with features.

Some basic controls give you the possibility to make the cursor visible inside the recording, while another option which is sure to come in handy, is to have the cursor followed. It’s best to view the preview area at first, because it’s initially a pretty small box, and you don’t get much space for anything. The area can be resized and place over the desktop space of interest.

Quality settings are only dictated by the number of frames you can manually specify. Before the recording starts, a destination also needs to be specified, and you do this through a save dialog, which also shows the only supported output format, namely AVI.

All things considered, we can safely state that Screen Capturer comes in handy for simple recording sessions. It can be used on other computers as well, since it’s portable. Although not fitted with many output formats, general options let you customize the capture area and what to include, and is worth a try overall.
