Recordit is a lightweight piece of software that enables you to create quick recordings of specific areas of your desktop as a GIF that is uploaded on the web for easy sharing.

Following a quick and uneventful installation, you can access the utility from the System Tray. The program comes with a minimalistic interface and simple menu that includes only a couple of features, namely recording and enabling the tool at system startup.

While some users could disagree with bare-bones appearance, let us not forget that the idea behind the application is to provide you with a quick way to grab areas of interest from your desktop. Consequentially, holding your mouse, you can mark the area to be recorded guiding yourself by the dotted lines that appear on your screen.

Take note that the app does not capture sound, so if you want to make a tutorial or provide more explanations, then you need to use other third-party software solutions.

You can tell that the app is recording as the System Tray icon provides visual signals and you can notice a Stop button in the area. Nevertheless, it would be nice if the app came with better controls for selecting the desired area, as sometimes you cannot figure out whether you circled the entire section.

The screen capture can be saved as GIF and, once completed, the app provides you with a link where you can view it directly on the web. It goes without saying that you can paste the link to your students, employees, customers or friends with just one click.

The tool keeps a link to the video that you can access whenever necessary. By clicking on the GIF button alongside the clip, you can immediately convert it to a GIF.
