Net Speed Cat

With the removal of the Desk Band feature on Windows 11, many users are upset that they no longer view the details of the upload and download speed in the task bar. Net Speed Cat is a Microsoft Store application that provides you with a simple way to keep an eye on your Internet connection from the taskbar.

Following the installation from Microsoft Store, open the application and should be able to view it in the System Tray. Simply right-click on the dedicated icon and select one of the available network interfaces. As you probably hinted, the app scans your system and is able to detect all available interfaces, including any virtual ones you might be using.

Once selected, the data regarding the upload and download speeds is going to be displayed in the Task Bar, right next to the System Tray area, so it is easy to check it out whenever necessary. As with other similar tools, you can configure the application to start with Windows in case you need to monitor the connection regularly.

During our tests in Windows 11, the application got stuck in the interface and we couldn’t access the icon that should have been present in the System Tray. Hopefully, this is an isolated incident.

On a side note, the idea for the app came because one of the popular tools for monitoring the Internet connection, NetSpeedMonitor, does not receive updates anymore. If you are or were using the said app, then perhaps you will enjoy this alternative as well.
