Set Proxy

Set Proxy is a lightweight and portable application designed to help you seamlessly change proxy settings in Internet Explorer. It runs in the systray and comes packed with just a couple of options that can be easily configured, even by users with little or no previous experience in networking utilities.

The entire tool's packed in a single executable file that you can save to a custom directory on the disk or copy to a removable storage unit, in order to seamlessly launch it on any PC with as little effort as possible.

It doesn't need DLLs or other components to work properly, create files on the disk without your permission, or add new entries to your system registry. In order to uninstall it, you just have to delete this .exe item.

Although it doesn't signal its presence through visual or audio means, the tool gets integrated into the taskbar notifications area, facilitating quick access to its small configuraton panel by double-clicking the tray icon. It gets sent here on minimization and doesn't have a right-click menu.

In the main panel you can view the handful of options provided by Set Proxy, enabling you to type or paste a proxy address and port number, as well as to check a box to commit changes immediately.

The proxy state is revealed through a systray balloon message, where you can find out the proxy address and port number when enabled, as well as get notified as soon as it's disabled. Keyboard shortcuts are supported to swiftly enabling (F8) and disabling (F7) the proxy.

It didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. The software application remained stable throughout its runtime, without causing the OS to hang, crash or prompt errors.

On the other hand, Set Proxy doesn't come bundled with richer options or customization preferences. For instance, it doesn't support multiple proxy profiles, which would had made it easier to create and manage more than one proxy server and port. We are also keeping in mind that it hasn't received updates for a long time.
