Capture TCP/IP packets that pass through your network adapter and view TCP/IP conversations in an ASCII or HEX dump mode using this portable tool #TCP/IP packet #Socket sniffer #TCP conversation #TCP/IP #Socket #Sniffer
Socket Sniffer is a small software application developed specifically for helping you capture TCP/IP packets and analyze the captured data as a sequence of conversations between clients and servers.
You can deploy the tool on all Windows versions out there. In order to run the program correctly and avoid compatibility issues, you need to deploy .NET Framework on the target computer.
The utility is able to display the TCP/IP conversations in an ASCII mode for text-based protocols, like HTTP, SMTP, and POP3, or as HEX dump for non-text based protocols.
This is a portable program. You can store it on USB flash drives or other portable devices to have it with you all the time. You may run it without administrative privileges.
Gaining access to its features requires only opening the executable file because there’s no setup included in the process. It does not write entries to your Windows registry and leave other configuration files on the target PC. It actually saves the settings data to the storage device.
Socket Sniffer reveals a straightforward layout that integrates all configuration parameters into a single layout. Although you cannot appeal to a help manual, you can get an idea about how the tool works in a short amount of time thanks to its intuitive looks.
The application is able to capture TCP/IP packets that pass through your network adapter and reveals the information directly in the main window. You only need to input the target IP address.
What’s more, you are given the possibility to start or stop the sniffing process. You can also input a custom IP address in order to make the program highlight it in the main window.
Socket Sniffer reveals detailed information about the protocol, local address, remote address, local/remote port number, local/host, number of packets, data size, total size, and time when data was captured.
You can also check out the ASCII or HEX dump data displayed at the bottom of the GUI for each recorded line. Plus, you may copy the information to the clipboard so you can transfer it into other programs.
Tests have shown that Socket Sniffer carries out a task quickly and without errors. It does not eat up a lot of CPU and memory resources so the overall performance of the computer is not affected.
Socket Sniffer comes packed with several useful and simple options for helping you keep an eye on the TCP/IP packets, and can be configured by rookies and professionals alike.
