When you store your data or your website on a server, you want to make sure it is always up and running. You can rely on dedicated apps like WinPing to check its status.

The application comes with a neat and straightforward interface that helps you focus on monitoring your server. In other words, you do not get distracted by flashy colors or redundant buttons.

Instead, you can enter the address or IP of a domain, then ping it to check its current status. The number of pings per host can vary between 3 and 10, and you can choose the value that best suits your needs. You can alter the maximum number of hops to search for the target host to a parameter in the range 30-100.

The Settings menu of WinPing is also the place where you can alter the value of the ping requests timeout to vary between 250 milliseconds to 3000 milliseconds. The default is 2000 milliseconds, yet you can easily switch it to a different value.

Similarly, you can modify the host name timeout to a parameter from the same range.

A very handy feature of WinPing is that you can save the results of each search to HTML, so you can analyze it at a later time. Alternatively, you can compare it to an old report and examine the status evolution for a certain server.

WinPing is a small, yet reliable software utility that can help you keep an eye on a server's uptime. Unfortunately, you cannot set to automatically start pinging it according to a schedule, so you need to manually initiate the scan every time.
