The Internet is filled with all sort of applications and tools that help make you work easier and perform all sort of tests on your computer. One of such software solutions is AlphaCom.
It allows you to connect a remote computer over a number of networks using telnet, SSH, modems and more. It sports a really nice graphical interface with plenty of features and tools at hand.
The application doesn't take long to install and it doesn't come with a complicated setup that you would need to complete before you can actually use its features. It's packed with lots of nice tools and features, neatly arranged in an intuitive graphical interface and a familiar layout.
The first thing that you need to do inside the application is to create new work sessions. You can create new TCP/IP telnet, SSH, RS-232 connections.
You will need to provide the host name and enable the feature that allows the application to automatically reconnect to a network. The next step is to set a Telnet port, a terminal type and to set the auto-activity minute timer to mimic network traffic.
The steps for connecting with a modem are a bit more complicated. In Telephone Number, type the telephone number for the computer you want to dial up. Place any necessary prefixes as if you were dialing a normal telephone, such as a 1 and the area code or a 9 if your telephone system requires it.
In Port, select the desired modem or specific COM port. If you are not sure of what COM port your modem is attached to, this is displayed in Control.
You can open multiple sessions and switch between them easily by using keyboard commands or the mouse. There's also the option to limit the number of sessions opened in AlphaCom at any time.
You can launch AlphaCom in the web browser and create instances. The new instance will automatically connect to the hostname and port specified. Port is optional. AlphaCom is a very useful application for connecting to a remote computer over a network using a number of methods.
