Extend the functionality of the Windows clipboard by making it hold more entries and have them saved for later use, thanks to this lightweight application. #Clipboard enhancement #Multiple clipboard #Clipboard history #Clipboard #History #Text
The Windows clipboard is a handy little default tool put at your disposal in order to temporarily store bits of text or files to paste them where needed. However, you can only process one item at a time, which can lengthen complex tasks. In this regard, WinClip comes with the means to store multiple entries and save them for later use.
A neat advantage is that you don’t have to install the application on your computer for it to properly function, which means you can carry it around on a USB flash drive to use on other computers as well. Another consequence of portability is that system registries remain intact, thus not having a negative impact on the target PC health status.
On launch, the application directly goes to system tray and there’s no indicator to alert you of this. Interacting with the corresponding tray icon can mean two things, either bringing up the list of stored items and related options, or expanding a related menu which lets you select the item you want to paste.
You can choose to keep the application listening to any clipboard changes, or disable it to perform work in normal conditions. What’s more, an input value field lets you specify the number of maximum items to store, with these kept in a list. However, you need to select the item you want to paste, and there’s no option to save slots to quickly insert with custom hotkeys.
On the other hand, a built-in feature gives you the possibility to store multiple entries without the risk of getting them overwritten. However, this list can only be accessed through the tray icon, but you must always select the item to paste, because there’s nothing to let you know what is currently stored.
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that WinClip is a practical little extension to the default Windows clipboard, but it feels a little rough around the edges overall. You only use the common copy paste functions, with no options to configure others, or export clips to file, and these are discarded once the application closes.
