Chalkboard is a lightweight utility that provides a different way to take notes by using your pen. The program can come in handy for anyone who prefers writing notes manually and can come in handy for teachers who are currently conducting online courses.

The application comes with a minimal design, which is not exactly a setback since it does not distract you. While you can use your mouse to write or draw, ideally the application works best with a stylus, as it makes things faster and more convenient.

The GUI is designed as a single-color background available in six colors that you can easily change with a click of a mouse. The app also incorporates seven pen colors and are available in different sizes, namely marker, standard pencil and fine drawing. The colors are neutral and unlikely to be bothersome for adults and children alike.

At the same time, the app includes an eraser that you can use to correct the drawings or notes you are taking. If you want to delete everything, then you should use Control + N or the New command from the lower right menu to start fresh. While you can save your notes, you cannot set the output folder or the file format, as all notes are saved in a BMP format.

According to the developer, the idea behind the app came as is trying to create a sketch or tutoring board for teaching. Moreover, the app should work well on all devices and should work even better if you happen to have a touch screen.
