DeepNotes

The market for note-taking apps is plenty filled. You’ve got a wide selection of apps to choose from, but if the standard feels much too formulaic for your liking, there are a few outliers that seek to do things a little more differently.

DeepNotes is one such solution, and if you’ve used OneNote in the past, much should seem rather familiar. Besides offering users an environment where they can jot down anything on their mind, the program also supports collaborative work, all while securing everything with end-to-end encryption.

The program is an attempt to offer users the ability to take notes in an alternative fashion. Design-wise, this is an interesting approach that provides one with an environment akin to a drawing board of sorts: double-clicking will create a new note, which you can use to jot down anything of importance.

While you’re free to add as much text as you like, and even use headings, superscripts, and add container notes, you don’t have to limit yourself to just text. Adding photos and videos — local or from the web — is a possibility, and support for code and math blocks is also a plus.

Bullet and numbered lists can likewise be added, and you may also create checklists for your work. Anything you add can be resized, colored, and linked as you see fit: this is visual note-taking, after all, so presentation plays an important role.

Support for collaborative work is present, which means that users will be able to collaborate with their team in real-time. Whether to brainstorm, or simply add a few finishing touches to a project, the functionalities on offer lend themselves well to workflows like so. Of course, any notes or projects you create and work on will be saved to your account and encrypted end-to-end, so that’s a nice bonus too.

DeepNotes is a very promising project. It’s still very much in early release, but as it stands, there’s really a lot to look forward to here.
