Before the Internet was as accessible as it is in the current days, we used to write and store our private and amazing experience and memories in a physical journal, which we either got from our parents or chosen from a store. There were so many models with different page colors, locks and customized covers, however, it was quite hard to keep it away from prying eyes.

Dragonfly Journal is one of the many virtual diaries over the Internet designed to offer a secure and much easier way of creating and saving your personal thoughts, memories or daily activities. In order for the program to run, Java needs to be present on the computer. What's more, thanks to its portable nature, it can be copied to a USB flash drive and operated from any Windows-based PC.

The tool is wrapped in a straightforward and accessible interface composed from a standard toolbar and an editor pad. Despite the few general features, the plain layout leaves much to be desired, as there are no format and edit options, nor the ability to insert images, links, tables or date and time.

When is started, you have the option to set up a new account inputting a username and password, which are required everytime you run the application. Plus, you can pick the desired theme from the options, but keep in mind that Dragonfly Journal needs to be restarted in order for the theme to take effect.

When entering a new record you have to select if it's private or not, date and time, a relevant description, corresponding tags, in order to find them quicker and the text body. Plus, it's possible to copy, cut and paste text from a different source and delete the current composition, as well as use the spellchecker to view mistyped terms. The database can be backed up to a specific location and scheduled to automatically update it weekly or on close.

Taking everything into account, Dragonfly Journal is an approachable utility that comes in handy for those who want a simple and efficient diary to write personal and important annotations with different content.
