Sunrise was one of the most widely revered calendar apps for a short while until it was bought by Microsoft in 2015, and shut down the next year. As expected, this move left behind a lot of disappointed users who now had to start looking for a good replacement for their beloved app.

Happily, there are a few decent alternatives to Sunrise, however, Kin Today was and still is one of the best. In short, Kin boasts a stylish and novice-accessible user interface and all the integrations one might need (Google Calendar, Office 365, Trello, Todoist, Facebook, GitHub, MeetUp, Eventbrite, and Wunderlist) in order to manage its private and work-related events from a single place.

Unfortunately, since there's no official Kin client for desktop platforms around (at least for the time being), you're forced to resort to your web browser in order to get things done. Or, you take Kin Desktop for a quick spin and see what's what.

As we're sure you've guessed, Kin Desktop is an unofficial Kin Today client that's built with Electron, and that brings the full functionality of the web app to your computer's desktop.

The app can be deployed on your computer in mere seconds and without any sort of special effort on your behalf thanks to a fully automated installer.

Once launched for the first time, you are presented with two options for logging in by using your Google or Facebook accounts. And, of course, you also need to provide the client with permissions in order to access your calendars and other related pieces of information.

Once logged in, you can start by connecting the rest of your daily apps mentioned in the first part of this review from the Preferences menu.

As we're sure you'll notice, your accounts are easily accessible from the left-sided panel within Kin Desktop's main window, and the service itself does a good job at smoothly intuitively presenting all your events.

All things considered, Kin Desktop is sure to be appreciated by all Kin Today users who want to manage both their personal and private calendar events from the comforts of their computer's desktops and not with the help of web browsers.

Sure, this being an Electron-based app and all, well, it's not exactly the most lightweight app around, however, since it's currently the only Kin Today client for desktops, it should fit the bill quite nicely.
