Manage your Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive right from your desktop, made possible by this straightforward Electron-based app. #Google Docs #Google Cloud #Google Office #Google #Docs #Sheets
Google's offering stretches far and wide, and though its most well-known service is the search engine with a neological verb named after it, the company has continued on to provide many products to bring forth the boons of cloud technology. Everyone knows of Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive, and perhaps many also know how cumbersome managing all of that can be in your browser.
Google Docs Electron is more than just an Electron-based app for Google Docs: it allows users to manage everything Google, from Docs to Drive, within a singular interface.
Open up the app, log into your Google account, and you'll be able to see everything you've got. Your Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Drive are all synced, so any progress you make will carry over. You can manage your documents just as you would on the web: edit an existing document, or create a new one, and so on. The same works for Sheets, Forms, and Drive.
Working with Slides is a little different, in that you cannot create or edit new ones. You are only allowed to play existing presentations.
Aside from that, the benefits of the browser version carry over: while working on your stuff, you can also access Google Calendar, Keep, Tasks, Contacts, and Maps, making this quite a well-rounded office tool.
It's no surprise that Electron apps work much like little browsers of sorts, compacted into the smaller footprint of a program's interface. The resource cost of this may be a little higher than what you'd expect, but for convenience's sake, it's not that bad of a deal with today's computers.
All of this makes sense when you notice how similar everything is, between what's on your browser, and what's on the app. The Docs, Sheets, Forms, and Drive almost seem like 1:1 copies of their respective browser versions, so claiming that the app simply tries to emulate those web-based versions shouldn't be off the mark.
If you're looking to take Google's "office suite" to your desktop, it's worth giving Google Docs Electron a try, especially if you value comfort over anything else.
