Analyze all structured fields and values in AFP files using different view modes (ASCII, EBCDIC, or HEX), and export data to plain text file format using this portable tool #Explore afp #Afp lister #List afp #Afp #Viewer #Lister
AFPexplorer is a small software application developed specifically for helping you view all fields and values of AFP files. The tool offers you the possibility to display data as ASCII or EBCDIC, or lets you view it in HEX mode. It can be deployed on all Windows versions out there.
This is a portable program which can be stored on USB flash drives or other portable devices so you can have it with you all the time. You may run it without administrative privileges. Gaining access to its features requires only opening the executable file because there’s no setup included in the process.
No settings files and registry entries are left on the host computer so you can get rid of it using a quick deletion task.
The app sports a well-structured suite of features. You cannot appeal to a help manual so you need to experiment a little bit with the dedicated parameters in order to understand how the utility works.
AFP files can be imported in the working environment using the drag-and-drop support or built-in browse button. You are offered quick access to a list with recently opened documents.
The tool reveals information about the name of the imported file, number of pages, number of documents, number of fields, field type, field size, and field data, as well as field details (e.g. size, offset, type, code).
AFPexplorer lets you jump to the first, last, next, or previous page, go to a user-defined page number, access a certain field by specifying the corresponding number, as well as view a certain field offset or resource.
You can look for PTX or NOP text data, find field by field type, as well as extract resources to a custom location on the disk and, in case of file conflicts, use resource name and a custom extension, prompt for file names, or use just the resource name.
The program allows you to switch between the supported viewing modes (ASCII, EBCDIC, and HEX) with ease, keep the main window on top of other panels, and edit byte values.
What’s more, you can check out AFP file properties (e.g. type of files, location, size, size on the disk, date when it was last modified, number of pages, and file comments displayed in ASCII or EBCDIC) and export data to plain text file format by setting the saving directory and filename, specifying the number of pages, including file header, treating object names as EBCDIC, as well as manually choosing the field filters.
Tests have shown that AFPexplorer reads data quickly and without errors. It remains light on system resources so the overall performance of the system is not affected.
All things considered, AFPexplorer packs useful options for exploring structured fields and values found in AFP files, and can be handled by rookies and professionals alike.
