Text Replacer

Having to work with text elements can mean repeating the same things, but with slightly different strings. Instead of writing down similar paragraphs over and over again, you can rely on a specialized application, which is the case with Text Replacer, managing to create custom paragraphs based on specific variables.

As far as the visual design is concerned, the application wants to make it easy for both beginners and experienced individuals to get the hang of things. Several panels provide a clear view of the variables list, the currently loaded template, as well as the output panel. There’s a sample set of items to quickly get you up and running.

The list of variables refers to the items used when using particular commands inside the template. It’s composed out of multiple rows containing comma separated values. However, you can’t load the variable list from a CSV file, but an XML document instead. On the bright side of things, you can edit the variable list and export it as XML.

Most work needs to be performed inside the template, given you already have the variable list in order. The template needs to be filled in with custom strings. Variables come in handy and are only used when specific commands are written down, so the application chooses from specific rows.

Output is delivered at the press of a button, mostly looking like the template, but containing variables instead of functions. Sadly, there’s no possibility to save the output to file, unless you manually copy it from the dedicated field. You can also modify text on the spot in case you want to include more info.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Text Replacer comes with good intentions, but it can take quite some time to configure templates and variable lists. Specific commands need to be used to call variables, while output needs to be manually extracted and saved to file.
