Data can be found in a variety of formats, and can be stored in multiple types of containers, depending on the content and operations which need to be performed. For instance, DataBook lets you create a database to fill with your important data so that it’s always kept safe. Graphs can also be built from the values.

The first thing you might want to know is that the application relies on Java Runtime Environment to function, so you might want to make sure it’s installed on your computer. On the other hand, the installer lets you grab and deploy Java so that you save some time and effort. The application can be launched right afterwards.

One of the first operations you need to perform is to create a database. It is stored on your computer under the XML format. Multiple databases can be created and manipulated. Needless to say that the new database is empty by default, with options to grab values from several sources.

Manually adding new data to the XML database is one way to tackle things. It’s an incredibly easy operation, only requiring you to fill in the right cell with the data you want. However, the operation can become pretty time-consuming for large quantities of data.

On the other hand, you can import data from existing files on your computer. These can be tab or comma separated value files. You can choose to ignore the first record, and you also get to preview data before it’s included in your database.

Unfortunately, the application is not really a spreadsheet editor, so you aren’t able to include formulae in your projects. However, the application can be used to build several types of graphs based on custom selection and definition of data.

To sum it up, DataBook comes as a place to store large quantities of data and generate graphs. It sadly doesn’t contain advanced spreadsheet functions, but this is because it’s not such a program. On the bright side, you can grab data from a variety of sources, and thoroughly build graphs out of selection of data.
