Quickly search through multiple files in order to locate a specific text string, with this open-source utility that supports File Explorer integration. #Text Search #File Search #Find Text #Search #Text #Find
If you work with large numbers of files and need to find a specific string of text, opening and searching through them individually is very time-consuming, not to mention tedious.
Thankfully, you can rely on an application like Grepy to make things more straightforward. It is a fairly simple application that enables you to search through every file in a certain folder in one operation, saving you a lot of time and effort.
The installation process is very straightforward, and you have the option of integrating the application into the context menu, enabling you to start a search just by right-clicking a certain folder.
Files in the results list are normally opened using the application associated with them, but you have the option of using a different editor if you prefer.
Once you have selected a folder, you can enter the search term and specify which types of files should be included. What’s more, the application offers support for regular expressions.
Any search terms and file specifications are saved in drop-down lists, so you can quickly select them again and use them in the future.
You can configure the number of background threads that should be used for searching operations, and rich text display of results can be disabled until after the search is completed.
When it comes to the program’s graphical user interface, we have to say that it is fairly intuitive, and you can even change the layout of the file list and results panels. However, the UI does seem to be rather outdated, though this is certainly not a big issue.
On the whole, Grepy is a useful tool for those who need to find text strings in multiple files and wish to streamline the process. It is very easy to use, supports File Explorer integration and offers a decent set of filtering options.
