Haali Reader

Haali Reader is a small Windows application designed to help you open and read plain text and XML files in a clutter-free interface.

The GUI looks simple and easy to work with. Files can be loaded in the main window using the built-in browse button (there’s no support for drag-and-drop).

A small progress bar is integrated at the bottom of the main window for helping you browse throughout the content of large documents. A full screen reading mode is on the feature list.

Haali Reader gives you the possibility to create multiple bookmarks and view a complete list with all of them. Each bookmark is signaled in the text with the aid of a red sign, and you may export all bookmarks to plain text file format.

What’s more, you are allowed to copy the selected text to the clipboard so you can easily paste it into other third-party programs, perform searches, and view a list with recently opened files.

Haali Reader lets you set up the default encoding, alter the text in terms of font, size and rotation angle, show information in the progress bar (e.g. chapter title, time, document length), change the color of the text, configure dictionaries for translating words, and allow multiple instances of the program to be opened.

In conclusion, Haali Reader integrates a basic suite of features for helping you read plain text and XML files. On the downside, it hasn’t been updated for a while so it may cause compatibility issues on newer operating systems. We have tested it on Windows 8.1 and experienced several crashes.
