Chances are you don’t have the time or patience to read long text strings, even though it might contain valuable information. However, some tasks, services, and who knows what ask for limit in words, and in case the word processor you’re using isn’t fitted with a counter, then JFreq is sure to efficiently manage the task.

Note that the application saves you the effort of going through a setup process, which means it can easily be carried around on a thumb drive to use on other computers. However, functionality is only available if Java Runtime Environment is on the computer you decide to use the program on.

All it has to offer is found in a pretty intuitive design, with all configuration options in plain sight to make accommodation a walk in the park. A panel is there to show the list of files you decide to process, which can be added easily through a drag and drop operation. The other half of the screen is a panel of behavior preferences for the project.

These range from encoding characteristics you can pick from a drop-down menu, including the language, to processing filters to include lowercase characters, and skip numbers, currencies, stopwords, and stemmer.

The application can also check for spelling errors, but this means you need to already have a dictionary file because it doesn’t come with one of its own. The scan status is generated in a file in a location of your choice, with options to select from several CSV file types, and whether or not to compress with Gzip.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that JFreq comes in handy for counting words in multiple text documents to save a lot of effort. Result is saved in a custom file format, and the operation only lasts a little while.
