Note Shell

The computer along with the rapid evolution of the Internet have had a helpful impact in every domain of activity. Research now benefits from quick finding of information on the information superhighway, while applications like Note Shell help easily store info you find in organized notes.

One of the application’s main advantages is portability, which means you can use it directly from a USB device, and carry it around along with all of your notes. Apart from a great deal of flexibility, portability also means that the computer you use it on doesn’t get affected in any way, because registries are not a dependency for functionality.

The visual display can feel a little rough, mostly because of the way default notes are named. The interface itself isn’t much to look at either, but visuals are not the center of attention here, and, on the other hand, this simplicity in design allows anyone to quickly accommodate, regardless of experience.

All notes you take are saved automatically in the root folder, under the exact name they appear in the navigation pane. You find files under the TXT format, but you can’t load an existing file, unless you place it in the root folder, with proper parameters. Documents can be organized in multiple groups, shown in a tree list that’s easy to go through.

The rest of the space is taken up by the edit area, where all text goes. It can easily be imported from the clipboard. Sadly, customization options leave more to be desired, and even though you can change style, color, and size, options apply to the whole document. Moreover, there’s no info on the number of words, or at least characters.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Note Shell comes with good intentions, and allows you to take, and organize notes in a simple, clean structure. However, the general design feels rough, with poor customization options, and little variety in file support. Sure enough, no functionality issues were encountered, and portability makes it worth at least a try.
