Quick Note is a Metro application you can use to quickly leave yourself notes in a clean and elegant environment, whether you have a meeting, party or other event to attend, or want to go grocery shopping, organize your chores, create a to-do list, and write comments.
The notes tool has a built-in spellchecker to rapidly correct typos, as well as support for tags that you can use to identify notes using the search charm. Also, the notes that stand out that can be pinned to your Start Screen or Menu.
The app can be installed via the Windows Store on Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 systems, ideally mobile devices with touch support, so you can write and view notes when you're on the move.
An Internet connection isn't required for Quick Note to run with all its features enabled, since information is stored locally and cannot be synced across multiple devices using a Microsoft account.
To add a new note, right-click somewhere on the window, click "New Note" from the lower-right corner, type or paste text, add one or more tags, as well as select a background color.
There are only seven color options available, though. It's possible to add as many notes as you want, edit content, delete one or more selected notes at once, and separately pin notes to your Start Screen or Menu.
You can export the database to file to later import it into Quick Note (from the settings area), right-click a word underlined by the spellchecker to view a context menu with suggestions, add new words to the dictionary or ignore the occurrence.
As previously mentioned, the search charm can be used to swiftly locate notes whose tags or descriptions match the text you enter. Worth noting is that you can clip web content as a note if you're using an Internet Explorer browser (including Microsoft Edge), while the note contents can be shared as text or screenshot using an external Modern UI app.
Unfortunately, the note color wasn't displayed on the Start Menu on Windows 10 in our tests, so multiple pinned notes were indistinguishable as far as color was concerned.
Also, although it's possible to pin notes to the home screen as reminders, Quick Note doesn't actually have support for scheduling audio alarms or popup messages to remind you of upcoming events.
