WordCounter

WordCounter is a lightweight and intuitive application you can use to count words while working on important projects for school or your business. It comes in handy when you're preparing an essay or presentation, as well as for writers.

This app is packed in a Modern UI, trusted by Microsoft, and compatible with desktops, tablets, notebooks and laptops with the Windows 10, 8 or 8.1 operating systems. It can be downloaded and installed from the Windows Store, so you can run it as a pinned app from your Start Screen or Menu.

Once launched, WordCounter displays a large window with a blue background and large empty box, where you can type or paste text. The words are counted in real time (as you type), along with the total characters (without spaces). If you cannot see this information, make sure to switch to fullscreen mode (there might be some display issues on certain monitors).

During our tests, we have noticed that the program works smoothly even when pasting very large text. To scroll up and down, you can use the mouse scrollwheel. Unfortunately, it doesn't implement an option for opening files to load text from there and spare you the trouble of separately opening the files to select and copy all text, then paste it inside this tool's window.

There are no other options integrated by the developer. We would have liked the possibility to customize the background and text, though. While it's not possible to copy the numbers of counted words and characters along with their corresponding text, you can take a screenshot and save the image using another Modern UI app you have installed, thanks to the built-in Windows features.

In conclusion, WordCounter doesn't have a particularly rich set of options and configuration properties but it supplies you with a simple interface and approachable controls for finding out the total number of words and characters within text.
