bwReplacer is intended to provide you with a customizable spelling checker and correction utility that can be used for automatically detecting and removing errors in written documents.

The program relies on regular expressions in order to detect each mistake in the input file and correct it on the spot, according to the set criteria. The existing database includes some of the most common corrections related to punctuation, broken words, joined or compound words, the text case, URLs and e-mail addresses, spelling mistakes, as well as errors occurred during OCR scanning.

You can modify the existing database by removing existing entries, adding extra categories or new criteria to compare the text to. In case you are not satisfied with the result, building a whole new correction system is also possible by creating a new database.

On the downside, the range of supported input formats is pretty limited, as you can only process plain TXT files and SRT documents.

bwReplacer is capable of processing more than one file at a time using the batch mode, which enables you to select an entire directory and proofread all the files inside it.

The application can remove unnecessary spaces before certain punctuation marks (comma, three dots, question or exclamation marks etc.), add spaces when necessary (such as before a new sentence starts), delete double spaces, capitalize the first letter after a dash when a new line begins or strip whitespace characters from the beginning of a line.

bwReplacer can help you create your own spelling correction system and apply user-defined criteria for searching and replacing strings in the input documents. While extra support for more file formats could really add to its value, it is surely a great tool for proofreading TXT and subtitle files.
