File Switcher

File Switcher is a plugin that complements the multi-tabbed support of Notepad++ by enabling you to switch between opened documents from a list. It features a search function that comes in handy for quickly locating docs when you have numerous files opened.

To integrate the extension into the text editor, all you have to do is extract the DLL file from the downloaded package and copy it to the "plugins" directory of Notepad++.

It doesn't matter whether you have the installer or portable edition of the word processor. If Notepad++ was already running before doing this, you have to restart it to commit modifications.

File Switcher can be accessed from the "Plugins" menu in the main window, where you can view a list of all opened documents and simply select the one you want to shift your attention to. The search function is displayed in the same window, right above the list.

When it comes to search options, you can enable case sensitive search to tell apart small from big letters, as well as ask the tool to look only at the start of the file name and/or path, and use only the files available in the current view.

It can automatically resize columns, use separate columns for the view, and use the Home and End keys for the text box. By default, only the filenames are included in the search operations, but the Notepad++ plugin can also take into account paths, the file index and view.

The default sort order is set to filename and path but you can swap this for path and filename, or index (tab order). Alternatively, File Switcher can be asked to always remember the user selection. Moreover, search results can be sorted in descending order.

All things considered, File Switcher delivers an interesting way of navigating multiple opened documents in Notepad++. Its key feature relies in its search function with customization settings.
