Text editors have evolved quite a lot, and there’s an abundance of them out there. Despite the advent of AI and tools like the ChatGPT and all the enhanced functionality that these bring, the need for dedicated text editors still remains present, even to this day.

Aiming at offering a more generalist take on the whole text editor endeavor, GlacialWorld Notepad is here to provide a simple editor, that is focused on minimalism, carrying only the essentials, and featuring formatting tools.

Right from the start, the very plain design of GlacialWorld Notepad becomes quite apparent, and this is both good and bad at the same time. Good, because this inherent simplicity enhances accessibility, leaving nothing between you and facile text input.

Bad, because several essential features are missing. Immediately, I noticed that resizing the window will not readjust the text and that this will result in it being blocked, as there is no scroll available. Word wrap is also missing, which is quite important.

When it comes to inputting text and formatting it, there’s really not much to comment on, it’s all there, readily available, and provided in a capable manner. However, I couldn’t help but notice that the app offers support for only one, proprietary format.

This means that you will not be able to either import or open text files of other formats, which is highly rigid in terms of capabilities. However, the exported, .gwnote format files, are compatible with Microsoft Word, which means that you’ll at least be able to open them in other editors.

While featuring some gaping caveats, such as a lack of word wrap, or support for just a single format, GlacialWorld Notepad still manages to perform decently when it comes to inputting text and formatting it.
