ModernNote

ModernNote is a software application which comes bundled with a spellchecker and provides Windows 8 users with a simple means of creating, editing and saving body texts.

The installation process is a piece of cake, as it does not offer to download any third-party products and it does not last longer than a few seconds. After you complete it, you are met with a minimal and clear-cut GUI, as it consists of a plain window and a few buttons which can be easily brought up or hidden.

Although no help contents are incorporated, it comes clear that all types of users, including those with little or no previous experience with computers, can find their way around it with ease.

ModernNote supports a spellchecker, so that you can avoid making mistakes while in a hurry. Moreover, it is possible to cut, copy and paste elements, undo actions, apply a bold, italic or underline formatting, change the font color with the help of a built-in drop-down menu and use a search function to easily look for a particular phrase.

At import, this utility supports HTML, CSV, TXT, HTM and RTF file extensions, while at export you can use CS, PRMDF, PRTDF, HTML, CSS, RTF, TXT and CSV formats. No other notable options are provided by the developers.

The amount of resources required in order to properly work with ModernNote is low at all times which means that you can run it alongside other tools without running into problems, be they demanding or not. The interface is user-friendly, the response time is good and we did not come by any hangs, errors or bugs in our tests.

It proves to be a pretty efficient piece of software for writing body texts, yet we feel that it lacks a lot of options that other similar tools enclose.
