NoteSharp

There’s a whole variety of methods of editing text, with Windows providing a few basic tools to get you started. These can either serve as basic text editing methods, or even to help you write source code of your projects. It’s also the case with NoteSharp, which allows you to edit C# files, as well as plain text.

It takes little time to get the application deployed on your computer, letting you quickly see what it can do for you. A pretty simplistic window shows up on launch, but it’s not really wrapped around a classic frame, custom textures are used in the design, as well as intuitive sets of buttons, and a large area for text input.

Input is easily done just like in any other text editor. You can load files as long as they’re under formats like CS or TXT. These formats are also available when saving your work, meaning it comes in handy as an editor for your C# project files. In this regard, there’s also a line numbering on the side to make it easy to track your code.

Edit elements aren’t really abundant. You can copy text and paste from the clipboard, cut sections, undo, and redo operations. As mentioned, there’s a search field which is used to quickly identify strings of interest.

Unfortunately, code tracking isn’t really enhanced, even if there’s line numbering on the side. In other words, the lack of syntax highlighting can make it rather difficult to tell classes from functions, from regular text values.

Bottom line is that text editing can also be used as a means of working on source code projects. Various helpful elements can provide comfort in identifying and writing code, but it’s not really the case with NoteSharp, coming with a rather poor set of features, even for a plain text editor.
