PurePad

More often than not, you don’t really need anything beyond the embedded Notepad on Windows to make a list, create a memo or write down a piece of information. Then again, if you are regularly taking notes, then you may find it annoying to manage numerous files and find a particular one.

PurePad is an alternative to the native Notepad application and provides a clean and tabbed GUI where you can write anything from simple reminders to code.

The app is portable and comes with a clear and modern interface that is a little bit similar to Notepad. The main difference is that the app lets you open numerous other pages as tabs, so you can easily navigate through your notes.

You can easily add, remove, and rename pages, using the options located in the lower left corner. To rename a page, click on the Pencil button and type the desired name.

Another noteworthy feature of the tool is that it automatically saves your pages, whereas in Notepad you are asked whether you would like to save the document before closing. This allows you to conveniently restore notes upon relaunch or access individual notes directly from the Pages folder.

Unlike the basic text editing capabilities of Notepad, PurePad includes a simple code editor with syntax highlighting. The feature can come in handy if you are working with code in languages such as C/C++, Python, Java, and JavaScript.

The tabbed interface, code editing features and automatic file storage make PurePad a more versatile and customizable note-taking tool compared to the Notepad.
