Text manipulation doesn’t just mean working with specialized documents, and it can also be used as a method of writing source code. Nevertheless a text editor is required, and it doesn’t really need to be packed with a great deal of features, depending on the task. For instance, Editor comes as a slim alternative to default Windows tools.

A great thing about it is it saves you the effort and time required to go through a setup process, and you can take it for a spin as soon as download is done. As such, it’s easy to carry around on a thumb drive along with your project files so you can edit them with your own tools regardless of the computer you’re using, without affecting its stability.

Most of the space is taken up by the edit area itself. The status bar shows the caret position, while the upper toolbar holds most functions and edit operations. Text input is done in plain format by default, but you can visit the settings panel in order to customize style, type, attributes, size, and color, but this affects the entire document.

File support doesn’t really make it stand out from the crowd since the only option to save and load is for the TXT format. This means that most text customization options are discarded when saving. Loading can easily be done through a drag and drop operation. Note that tabs are not implemented, so you can only work on one document at a time, unless you run multiple instances.

On the other hand, it’s packed with quite the variety of edit options. Apart from basic selection and copying of text, there’s a built-in search function with a replace tool, option to jump at a specific line, or the possibility to add bookmarks. Moreover, custom lines can be locked to prevent accidental editing.

Truth be told, Editor comes with a variety of edit options which greatly enhance text operations. Customization is possible, but not in great deal. It comes in a lightweight package, and you can carry it on a thumb drive. The only downside to the entire operation is the poor file support.
