It comes packed in a small-sized archive with only one executable that can be dropped on a USB flash drive and launched without prior setup on any PC. In order to smoothly run, .NET Framework needs to be installed or updated to the latest version.

The tool is similar in looks with most notepads, wrapped in a straightforward and intuitive interface with all the essential components in plain sight and a resizable window. It only supports TXT file formats, but you can easily paste text from any document. At the bottom of the panel, the word and line count are displayed.

If mistakes were made or you aren't happy with the result, the undo and redo arrows help you go back to the previous composition. Plus, you have the option to find and replace terms with others, go to a specific line and enter the date and time. Unfortunately, the app doesn't let you insert images and basic tables or automatically recognize hyperlinks.

It doesn't provide a spell checker nor the ability to assign a custom picture as foreground. The content can be customized with particular font colors, styles and sizes, along with the background. A nice addition is the text-to-speech feature, which reads the composition using a virtual voice, however, the tool might become unresponsive during the speech.

Taking everything into account, Vb .Net Notepad is a useful and accessible program that comes in handy for everyone who only wants a small yet efficient utility to easily compose and store documents. Thanks to the fact that it's portable it doesn't generate new entries nor leaves traces in the registry.
