GML

GML is a Windows software application that consists of a database with the necessary information for learning to code in GML (Game Maker Language). Its interface is similar to a book, which contains eight lessons organized in a table of contents.

GML is the primary scripting language used in Game Maker. Various games have been implemented with its help, such as Hotline Miami, Gods Will Be Watching, Hyper Light Drifter, and Savant: Ascent.

Installing this app doesn't take long. However, you shouldn't rush through the wizard steps. Because GML is ad-supported, it offers to download and install a third-party tool that it doesn't really need to work properly. Unless this interests you, the offer can be declined to make a clean setup.

As far as the interface is concerned, the main app window looks like a book whose table of contents is displayed at startup. You can click the arrow button next to each lesson to jump to that page in the book and read GML-related information.

These include introduction, moving, motion control, imaging, working with numbers, arrays, drawing, objects, and rooms. Page flipping animation is triggered when selecting the next or previous page.

The software utility has descriptions, explanations and code examples, along with buttons for going to the next or previous page, or table of contents. On the other hand, there are no options available for copying or printing text, or saving it to file.

We haven't come across any compatibility issues with Windows 10 in our tests. GML worked smoothly and had minimal impact on the computer's performance, as expected. Taking everything into account, GML offers a simple solution for accessing lessons in an offline database for learning Game Maker Language.
