For those who have a large number of applications, files, folders and drives, it can be difficult to organize them or browse them quickly. For users who need to find a particular file or folder quickly, searching them can be a tedious and slow process. DiskFinder allows users to catalog an entire drive within the application, so it can be browsed and searched instantly, without any loading or search times.
The application is very easy and straightforward to use, it requires only a few minutes to index and catalog an entire drive. Users simply select which drive they want to organize and it does the rest, the results can be saved as well, so the application doesn't have to scan every time it is used.
Since the application creates an index of each drive it scans, searches are near instantaneous and, unlike a regular Windows search, there is no awkward load time. The application also creates a separate area within the window for searches to take place, meaning users do not lose what they are looking at, unlike a regular search.
DiskFinder provides some additional features that improve how it operates. Users can employ filters to refine their searches and browsing of a scanned drive. The search option also features two text fields, so users can search for two separate keywords or phrases at the same time, rather than trying to make one long string of words.
The biggest limitation of the application is that it lacks the ability to access anything you have located, the application tries to compensate for this in various ways. Since the application displays a copy of the drive, it lacks the actual files, what can be copied though is the file location and the application contains a shortcut to Windows Explorer. Users can paste the file location into Explorer, which is the fastest way the application provides to access a discovered file. The ability to double click and open Windows Explorer to the correct location would be a step up from this.
The application is well executed and extremely useful for users who have trouble finding a specific file on their drive. The index and catalog system is a much better searching tool than the standard Windows search feature, and, while it could be improved, it remains a better way to explore a drive. To conclude, Disk Finder is a good choice with few, if any real drawbacks.
