Most users like to organize their multimedia files in different directories on one of the hard disk partitions. As the music and video library grows, it becomes more and more difficult to find the files they are looking for. A media management application can be of great help.
Suggestively called MediaArchive, this particular application can index all the media files on your computer and help you easily find the songs that you like. Alongside basic filtering options, it brings to the table a few interesting features, such as easy presorting, album browsing and fuzzy search capabilities.
As you launch MediaArchive for the first time, you are greeted by a welcome window that displays some important notes and instructions. As such, you are recommended that you first index all your media files to allow the fast search. In fact, the next window that opens up enables you to create your first index by specifying the target folders and allowing the application to look for all the compatible media files. Depending on the number of media files in the selected directories, this process takes more or less time to complete.
The main window of MediaArchive enables you to select the index to use and choose the search criteria. The application can search files by title or artist name or by the album name, but note that MediaArchive can also look for matches in all the fields. You can look for video, audio or both and narrow down the list of results by choosing an exact match instead of similar terms.
It is also possible to search for albums instead of individual songs. The built-in album explorer helps you quickly find your preferred music.
Aside from the indexing, filtering and searching options you would expect in such an application, there are a few additional options left for you to explore. For instance, MediaArchive can interact with your media player (there are a few supported players) to create playlists and open files for playback. It comes with an integrated tag editor, which enables you to modify the metadata information of audio and video files on your computer.
MediaArchive comes in handy if you are looking for a way to index your media files and find the ones you like easier. It comes with the tools you need to look for media files on your PC and filter your results. On the downside, the interface looks a bit outdated and overcrowded.
