Index any location on your computer, or even removable media in an organized database which is explored in a navigation tree and file list #Create file index #Index files #File index creator #Generate #Generator #Index
With almost every domain of activity and form of entertainment finding its way into an electronic format, you might need or want to organize collection of files into structured databases. This doesn’t have to be a complicated task, especially when you rely on specialized applications like SkyCD to get the job done.
Note that the application doesn’t require installation in order to function, so it’s good to go from the moment download is done. Moreover, you can store it on a thumb drive in case you want to index locations from other computers, but also have all database files with you wherever you go. System registries are not modified during runtime, so the health status of the target PC remains intact.
On the visual side of things, the interface holds all features in a classic window frame, with a neat navigation panel to preview content of databases. There’s a side panel which displays a tree list of all folders, while the rest of the space shows files with thumbnails, view mode which can be switched to small icons, list, details, or tiles.
Although you can’t just drop content you want to index over the main window, the add dialog isn’t difficult to use. Content can be filtered to read either from a media disk, from folder, or the Internet. Every mode has its own requirement fields, which include a name, source of files, and whether to add into existing databases or create a new one.
All files inside the source are shown in a similar manner to File Explorer. Unfortunately, you don’t benefit from any direct file-related operations, such as physical removal, copy, move, or even opening with the default viewer. It could have used a search function to easily identify content in a crowded database.
All things considered, we can state that SkyCD is a simple method of storing all kinds of content and collections in an organized database. It’s pretty easy to configure the source, and view modes make the entire operation comfortable. Sadly, there’s no search function, and you can’t open files or jump to the source location.
