Scanning barcodes is usually done with specialized tools, but technological advancements have made it possible to do so through your device's camera. In theory, all you need is to have a webcam for your device, and a good software solution to enable a process like such.

The first part may be easy enough, but the second one might be a little more difficult. If you're on the lookout for such a software application, then BarcodeCam should make for a rather interesting offering. It allows you to scan barcodes through your device's webcam, and can even automatically paste product barcodes into your spreadsheets upon scanning something.

In essence, the software is as modern as it gets when it comes to scanning barcodes. The interface is minimalist, enabling users to get straight to scanning barcodes: all you'll need is to enable your webcam, and bring the barcode within view.

The program will play a sound cue whenever it detects a barcode. The respective code will be displayed in the interface, which will allow you to paste it wherever you wish.

You also get a few options to configure if you so desire. Changing the video source to a different device is possible, and a Barcode suffix function is likewise present. The function is for when you want to integrate the program with something else, such as a spreadsheet program.

As stated previously, the Barcode suffix feature allows you to choose a button for the program to trigger once it detects a barcode. Enter is selected by default, but you can elect to use Tab, Space, or any of the arrow keys instead.

By default, the program works very well with a spreadsheet solution like Microsoft Excel. Simply put, once a barcode is detected, it'll automatically paste it onto your spreadsheet. You can thus scan the barcodes without interruption, as the software will take care of inputting the codes.

BarcodeCam is a fitting name for a software like such. It's easy to get started with, and being able to scan your barcodes while the program enters the codes in your spreadsheets is really quite convenient.
