Since traveling the world isn’t really a difficult thing with modern transportation methods, you need to be up to date with all currency exchange rates so you don’t lose any money. Sure enough you can do this even at an exchange shop, but it can also be done on the spot with the help of applications like Currency Calc.

First of all, you need to make sure that your computer is equipped with Java Runtime Environment to prevent running into any issues. However, this also means that the program isn’t bound to the Windows operating system, so you can install and use it on a whole range of other devices which support Java.

As far as the visual design is concerned, the application wants to keep things simple, and isn’t really fitted with anything to make it stand out from the crowd. On the other hand, the overall layout makes it easy for individuals of all levels of experience to quickly get the hang of things, not that a currency converter is usually any trouble.

Input goes in a dedicated field, while result is delivered at the press of a button. Input needs to be done through the keyboard, because there are no numerical values in the main window. More than input, you also need to specify the source and destination currency items, which you select from a couple of drop-down menus.

Unfortunately, the application is fitted with quite a poor selection of currency items, which mostly count as four. More than that, you can’t even edit or add more items to the list. However, the biggest impact on overall practicality is the poor display of results, which might not be very accurate.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Currency Calc doesn’t really deliver the the expected, not even in terms of visuals. There’s a really poor selection of currency items, and the lack of options to add your own drags down practicality almost entirely.
