Nowadays, you can find numerous small tools, just like akFontViewer, whose main purpose is to offer you a simpler method to view each font type and its character map. The installation requires little effort from you, while the provided interface is plain and self-explanatory.

It's divided into the font list that includes the item's name and a sample, and the entire character map. The list can be updated manually, and the total number is displayed at the bottom.

The same preview which is shown next to the font can be seen at the base of the window, at a larger scale. You have the option to browse through the fonts using the mouse wheel or the keyboard arrows.

Plus, they can be previewed with bold, italic, underline, and strikethrough, as well as displayed to a larger or smaller size. You can find specific items, by writing the whole word or just a part of it. It would have been a nice addition if the tool offered a choice to export the whole list or just specific items to TXT, DOC or RTF files.

Compared with other similar programs, akFontViewer doesn't offer the option to change the text color or to view TrueType or not TrueType fonts. What's more, it's possible to copy the font name to the clipboard and use its detail to find it in your word editors. No additional options are included, making it easier to browse the fonts, without complicating your work even more.

Taking everything into account, akFontViewer is a useful and user-friendly application that comes in handy to those who want to view particular fonts, and decide which ones describe their personality the best.
