One way to achieve this is through Origami a good application that can teach your child (or yourself) this ancient Japanese art.

It's commonly known that origami is not just paper folding and creating your standard-issue pointy airplane. It is a fine art of creating almost photorealistic representations of objects from all around us. That being said, origami may take a while to learn. That is where Origami gives a helping hand by giving you the option of choosing between video and frame-by-frame tutorials. Each type of tutorial boast their own shapes but that is not a problem since they are so easy to understand.

A few things are worth mentioning though. The video animation's speed is a bit high, but this is compensated by the buttons that allow you to go back, replay, or move ahead one step, while for the static tutorials, the preview images used are pixelated and anesthetic. Another issue is that the static tutorial's lessons are a bit confusing, (the arrows showing how to perform certain folds especially), forcing you to do a bit of guesswork or skip to the next step to see if what you obtained looks proper.

All things considered, Origami is a good application for when you want to learn how to create fun shaped using nothing more than a sheet of paper and your wild imagination.
