World Maker

After going through a great fantasy novel, movie, TV series, or video game, some people are impressed with the world created by the author.

Some of them then start imagining how they would create one. The process itself isn't necessarily hard, but rather time-consuming. But if they want to create a quick and random world, they could use World Maker.

The concept behind this program is simple. You just need to select one of three map sizes (small, medium or large) and the number of continents you want it to have.

When you're done, you just need to click the Generate button and the program will create a random map for you.

The map can then be viewed in 7 modes: Continent, Elevation, Sea, Rainfall, Temperature, Climate, Satellite. Based on which one you choose, the colors of the map will change to display the correct terrain, altitudes and so on.

There is also the 8th option called Rivers. This one can be toggled on and off, and it will simply display the locations of all the rivers from the map on top of any of the other 7 view modes.

When it comes to editing the map, one option is to adjust the sea level. Depending on how you change it, your map will either have more or less water.

The final two customization buttons are Erode and Sea Erode. You can use the former to make mountains less sharp, while the latter does the same for coasts.

Sadly, yes. The program does generate maps for you, but it doesn't allow you to modify them all that much.

If you need something quick and random to work with, then World Maker is perfect for you. But if you want to make a map that looks exactly how you want it, then I would suggest trying to find a different program.
