BMI Calculator is such an application. Developed in Java, the tool supports both the metric and imperial system, and it gives you the possibility to perform conversions between meters/centimeters and feet/inches as well as kilograms/grams and stones/pounds.

The entire program's packed in a single .jar executable file that can be saved anywhere on the disk or copied to a removable storage it to effortlessly run it on any PC. Just make sure that Java Runtime Environment is installed or it won't work.

When it comes to the interface, BMI Calculator has a small window with a straightforward look, where you can choose between the metric and imperial system, as well as enter your height and weight.

After clicking the "Calculate" button, the utility shows a popup messages with your BMI and tells you whether you're with in the underweight, normal, overweight or obese range.

The developer hasn't implemented an option for saving this information to file, which would've been useful for tracking your progress when you're trying to gain or lose weight.
