Morse Coder

Although the forms of communication have long evolved since Morse code, the Internet is not always reliable. However, this rudimentary alphabet is still used in most parts of the world for transmitting messages, such as aviation for sending requesting navigation aids via radio as well as amateur radio for sending continuous waves to distinguish from spark transmissions.

Those curious enough to learn the International Morse code for purely educational reasons or who just want to refresh their memory can resort to Morse Coder, a simple app optimized for computers running Windows 8, 8.1 and 10. It gives you the possibility to encode messages in Morse code and find out how they look like in light and sound.

The tool can be effortlessly downloaded from the Windows Store and installed on your computer. It's free to use and gets launched in a large window with an intuitive look.

Each letter of the alphabet, along with the numbers and some symbols are displayed in this panel, next to their translation in Morse code, made from dots and lines. On top of this table, you can type or paste your message (normal text), then tick the Light or Sound boxes (or both) if you want to see how your message would look like transmitted via light or hear the beeps.

After checking the boxes, click the Play button on the bottom-left side of the window. If the button isn't displayed, right-click somewhere in the window or click the burger button on the upper-right side to choose App commands. There are no features implemented by Morse Coder for recording Morse code messages to audio or animations.

All things considered, Morse Coder is a fun and educational tool that you can explore to find out how text messages look like transmitted in Morse code using light and sound.
