Wenlin

Wenlin is a software application built specifically for helping you learn Chinese with the aid of an integrated dictionary, text editor, and flashcards. The purpose of the program is to help you practice and improve your Chinese language skills.

It sports a clean layout that allows you to quickly access several functions related to the dictionary, sound files (studio recordings of all syllables of Mandar in Chinese with support for female and male voices), and a collection Chinese texts.

Wenlin gives you the possibility to edit the dictionary, add new vocabulary entries and modify the definitions, and check the commonly-used characters and basic data about animals, numbers, additional characters, and compound words and phrases.

What’s more, you can input characters using the conversion command or Brush tool for drawing the characters in a dedicated panel.

Other notable characteristics worth mentioning are represented by the possibility to print the information, perform basic editing operations (cut, copy, paste), undo or redo your actions, carry out search operations, and check lists with various subjects.

The built-in text editor enables you to read, write, edit, and print Chinese text, combine simple and complex Chinese characters, and select between different encoding methods (e.g. Unicode, GB).

Last but not least, you can generate flashcards for testing your Chinese skills, view the score, as well as access different documents, definitions, lists, and flashcards at the same time.

During our testing we have noticed that Wenlin carries out a task very quickly. It is quite friendly with system resources, so the overall performance of the computer is not affected.

To sum things up, Wenlin comes packed with handy set of parameters but the layout is not quite intuitive, so rookies may spend some time configuring the dedicated parameters.
