Screen Ruler

Whether you are a web developer or working on other projects that involve measuring the pixel size of various elements, a desktop ruler can prove incredibly helpful.

Screen Ruler is, as its name suggests, a program that displays a ruler on your desktop, enabling you to determine the length of any object on your screen in pixels. It can be customized in a number of ways, and it is very easy to work with.

To begin with, you can use the ruler in horizontal or vertical mode, set its length in pixels and choose from one of the available opacity levels. While not an essential feature, it would have been great if the transparency could be fine-tuned.

Several types of markings can be enabled, which make measuring easier. The application can highlight the center and thirds of the ruler, and it is also possible to set markings at any position.

If you really want to streamline your workflow, speeding up various tasks with the help of keyboard shortcuts is almost a must.

Screen Ruler allows you to move the ruler and resize it, as well as create and remove markings, all by using preset hotkeys. These can be viewed by accessing the Help section, but they cannot be customized.

The only major problem we encountered while using this application is that none of your configurations and markings, or even the ruler’s position, are saved when exiting the program. Naturally, this can be very inconvenient, as you will have to configure everything again on next launch.

On the whole, Screen Ruler is a well-designed utility that can prove useful for multiple types of projects, and it is very intuitive while offering extensive customization options. However, it does not save your settings when it is shut down, which is a pretty big downside.
