As this is the place where most of us like to relax and decompress, it’s only natural that we make sure that our homes are as comfortable as possible. Having a Smart Home is one way to ensure that you have a safe place where you forget about your daily problems.
Home Assistant Tray Menu is a lightweight tool that allows you to manage various smart devices in your home directly from your computer.
As the name suggests, the app doesn’t come with an interface, but rather it is designed for quick access from the System Tray. Following a quick installation, right-click on the icon and access the settings to configure and establish the connection. The program collects all its data from the Home Assistant app, so you need to establish the API connection at this point.
Creating the connection is not overly complicated, as you have the detailed instructions right there. First you need to paste the HASS URL, a link that you can get from logging into the Home Assistant app. Secondly, you need to generate an API token from the profile menu, ‘Long Lived Access Tokens’ section, to be more precise.
If everything was introduced correctly, you should be able to view all devices registered to Home Assistant in the Entities menu. In case they don’t show up, then you can refresh or reconfigure the API token.
The obvious advantage is that now you have a convenient way to access and control your Home Assistant entities directly from the System Tray. Instead of opening your browser, you can quickly interact with your Home Assistant setup with just a few clicks.
Home Assistant Tray Menu eliminates the need to toggle between browser tabs, as you can perform common tasks and control entities without disrupting your workflow.
