MagicRemoteService

MagicRemoteService is a tool that allows you to use your LG Magic Remote from your LG WebOS TV as a Windows mouse, enabling you to control your PC. It consists of two apps, one for the TV to send remote inputs and one for the PC to reproduce mouse and keyboard inputs.

The app doesn’t require installation, but you do need to have the LG Magic Remote and an LG TV to use the app. You can access it from the System Tray and fill in the necessary data, such as TV IP address, PC MAC address, port and subnet mask, to establish the connection between them.

To install the tool, you first need to set up the WebOS Command Line Interface on your PC and activate developer mode on your LG WebOS TV. Then, open the MagicRemoteService app on your PC and add your TV by configuring the developer mode app on your TV.

Once connected, configure the PC settings and save them. Optionally, you can set up Wake-on-LAN on your PC's motherboard and enable Windows auto logon. Finally, you can schedule a task to keep the developer mode activated on your personal server.

It is important to note that the communication between your TV and PC isn't encrypted, meaning that data transferred between them could potentially be intercepted. As a precaution, it's advisable to restrict the use of this application to trusted local networks where security measures are in place.

While I find the idea behind MagicRemoteService interesting, there are some areas where the app could use some tweaking. For example, when you install or update the app, you'll need to follow particular instructions to make sure it works correctly, which can be simplified with future updates.
