NMEA Converter is a relatively simple application that can convert real-time data streams captured from GPS, navigational or other such instruments to various formats. These devices can be connected via the UDP protocol or COM ports.

It is worth noting that the application requires .Net Framework to be installed on your computer.

The application window is dominated by the two panels used to display the input and output data streams. These can be resized, and you can also change the dimensions of the main program window.

Moreover, the total number of received and transmitted NMEA messages is displayed in the lower-left section of the interface.

There are no unnecessary visual elements, which means that you can monitor the data streams without being distracted. Granted, some may feel that the interface is a bit outdated, but this should not be a major issue considering the program’s target user base.

Before you can begin converting data, you are required to select the source of the input signal and provide the correct port number and IP address.

While these configurations are relatively simple, and experienced users should have no problems figuring out how to set up the application, it would still be helpful if some documentation were included.

After performing the necessary configurations, you can select the desired processing method. NMEA messages can be converted to UDP, KML or KMZ.

Even though the application’s name suggests otherwise, NMEA Converter can also process UDP and GPS data streams and convert them to NMEA and HDT respectively.

When taking all of the above into consideration, we can conclude that NMEA Converter is a powerful, versatile tool. It enables you to convert NMEA data in real-time and supports multiple output formats. However, no documentation is included, which may cause the application to be somewhat challenging for first-time users.
