Rainbow Board

Rainbow Board might not be a finished product yet, but it still is worth checking out. Its simple aspect might be the most charming of all elements. In fact, it is exactly what the name suggests; a whiteboard app. The rainbow part is, of course, up to each and every user. The colors and tools are all yours to play with. It's got all the basic instruments you'd expect, and some glitches too, unfortunately.

The most important aspect when dealing with entertainment apps of this kind is to have a friendly interface. Why? Well, because these sorts of programs are supposed to attract lots of different users, most of them with little to no computer knowledge. The app makes it simple to understand what each tool does. The pictograms are all grouped at the bottom of the window. It's clear the app was designed to be whiteboard-compatible, but it doesn't necessarily have to be used as such.

The brush is a simple and adjustable free form line tracer. The eraser is basically an undo tool for those areas where you might mess up your design. You have a fixed-line tracer for more technical sketches and a palette for picking the right shades to play with. The undo and redo buttons have the same function as in most other programs. The save button is especially useful if you've nailed the design and want everybody else to witness your artsy style.

Rainbow Board seems to pride itself on simplicity. The whole idea is for it to be an accessible drawing tool. It's not great, not innovative, and when you trace or erase lines there seem to be some sort of artifacts growing in-between the brush strokes. All these do remind the user that the application is still work-in-progress. Regardless, it's worth keeping an eye on and even using as is if you need an app to throw a quick sketch on from time to time.
