Windows Switcher

Windows Switcher is yet another one of those apps with not a lot of impact but a smart idea at its very base. We all know the user has one option when it comes to switching windows from one app to the other.

Alt + Tab is the combination you'd normally use, but what happens if you want to switch between multiple windows of the same app or program, without any preview, in a faster manner? The answer is quite simple, you use Windows Switcher, an application that allows one to do just that, using another proposed key combination.

The program itself can barely be seen as such. There are no menus, no options, just a simple icon in the system tray that notifies the user through its presence that it's active. Two very simple options are provided from its right-click menu.

One can exit the app or have it run at when you start your machine. That's it. In terms of its core mechanic, it functions quite well. Unfortunately, unless you are a programmer, there is no way to change the assigned key combination, which by default is Alt + `. When compared to the original Alt + Tab system, the Windows Switcher way is much faster. It won't show any preview of the window, it will simply scroll through all opened windows of one single, selected app.

The combination only works if the app with multiple windows is selected by the user. Unlike the original technique, you can't just hit the combination and see the apps respond. This is due to the fact that Windows Switcher does not help the user switch between apps, but only between windows of the same program. It's great if you find yourself using one program with multiple windows, for example when dealing with a browser, probably the most common scenario.

Although it might not be something of interest to all users, for those who might feel it counts towards an easier life, the application can be carried on any removable drive. You can share it with your other contacts. Keep in mind that you'll have to leave a copy of the app for them if they wish to run the app on a daily basis.

The best part is that once you find the app obsolete, there is no complex uninstall procedure for you to follow. Simply delete its executable, and you are done.

Windows Switcher is an application that will only be useful to some. It is only effective in scenarios where you have too many windows from the same app opened on your desktop, and you can't cope with their numbers.
