YAC to Squeeze

YAC to Squeeze is a lightweight application that enables you to display Caller ID information on your Logitech Squeezebox music player without significant efforts.

This app requires you to have YAC and Logitech Media Server installed on your computer before attempting to deploy it so that you can use it to its full extent.

YAC is a tool that retrieves the Caller ID information from the modem it is linked to and can then send it to multiple client computers. The Logitech Media Server is a streaming service used to play music on your Squeezebox music player directly from your computer.

In order to deploy YAC to Squeeze to your computer, you must follow a bunch of instructions that might feel a bit tricky to some users. First of all, YAC must be closed; then the original YAC executable must be replaced by the one in this app's package.

If you run the 64-bit version of YAC, you must use the "yac-x64.exe" file, but not before renaming it to "yac.exe." YAC must then be restarted and the "Yac2Squeeze.exe" and "YacLogViewer.exe" files must be placed into a separate folder. Registry entries must be modified according to the instruction manual.

After following the instructions and setting up the app, YAC will notify the clients as usual if there's an incoming call. It then checks for a "RunProgram" registry entry, and if present, it runs the appropriate program and uses the Caller ID as a parameter.

The Caller ID is the retrieved by "Yac2Squeeze.exe" and prompts your Squeezebox device to display it through the Logitech Media Server. You can also view a log of Caller IDs if you set the "LogViewer" registry.

If you're looking for a neat way to tweak your Squeezebox device so that it displays Caller IDs, you might give YAC to Squeeze a try. It might be a tad difficult to install and requires a bunch of components to run, but the payoff can be really satisfying.
