Yet Another Terminal is a nice software solution that allows you to debug and operate serial communications.
It's packed with lots of nice tools and features, neatly arranged in a sleek and intuitive graphical interface.
The application doesn't take long to install and it doesn't come with a complicated setup that you would need to complete before you can use all of its features. The first thing that you need to do after launching the application is to create a new terminal.
You can pick the terminal type, choose between text and binary. There's also the option to choose from port types and select the serial port that you would like to use.
Moreover, you can adjust the bits per second rate, pick the number of data bits, parity, flow control and more. There's a feature that enables the application to automatically try to open the port every a few seconds, when disconnected.
Once you've set the parameters, you can open the application and connect to a port.
The application allows you to set multiple predefined commands, set a shortcut for each one of the them and a description so you would know what they refer to. Multiple formats are supported, like binary, octal, decimal, string, ASCII controls and more.
You have the option to import multiple files, but only those than are in .yat format. It lets you view information in multiple ways, you can enable the transmit, bidimensional or receive panels if you want.
It comes with a really extensive advanced settings menu, you can choose the type of radix that you would like to use. Pick from string, binary, octal and more. You can also have the application separate radix for Tx or Rx.
Timestamp may be displayed, together with length, connect time, count and rate. You can also have YAT replace characters for certain values.
YAT is a very nice application that you could use for operating and debugging serial communications.
